Ayse Zelal Tugrul

Zelal, born in Diyarbakir, within the ancient lands of Tigris and Euphrates, pursued her education in Istanbul, Boston and Milan. With a background in civil engineering and a master’s degree in architecture, she seamlessly transitions into her role as a designer, blending engineering precision with artistic vision.

Today, her work draws inspiration from the ancient heritage of Mesopotamia, where copper and natural stone serve as central motifs. Copper symbolizes the enduring legacy of civilizations past and the passage of time, while natural stone embodies the earth’s raw elegance. Through the natural processes of aging and oxidation, each piece gains a distinctive character, echoing the narrative of evolution. Zelal’s work, rather than being historical artifacts, objectify a pursuit of form within artistic expression.

“Everything, tangible or conceptual, is in a state of form and composition”
